Clogging Weekend (con't)

After a day of clogging, the group headed to Macado's for supper. It felt really good to sit down and relax after dancing for most of the day!

After supper, it was back to the university for an evening of exhibition dances. Dances were done by a number of the teams that came and there were exhibition dances on a wide level of expertise. There were a couple of girls (around 7) who performed a couple of very easy dances, including Cotton-Eye Joe consisting only of cross-kicks, basics, chains, and maybe a couple of triples--all steps that are learned in the first beginner dances. On the other end of expertise, the national championship team Rhythm-N-Motion performed three different types of dances--an upbeat pop song, an acapella numebr, and a bluegrass number danced with sets of couples and called figures. One of the solo routines was noted as a 4-H championship winner. While I wasn't impressed with the technical difficulty or complexity of the dance (relatively simple steps with lots of repetition), I could understand why it was a 4-H winner--she had created a prop of a "witch-doctor" that obviously took some time to assemble, she had costume and hair-style specifically for the dance, it's a very catchy song, and she did dance it well.

Part of the group headed back to northern Virginia Saturday evening, but they had to miss all or part of the exhibition to even make it home by midnight. MaryLou and I chose to stay another night, took time for breakfast at Joe's Diner (a 24-hour hang-out), and arrived back at home in time for a late lunch.

A very fun weekend!
