Independence Weekend

I believe a Wednesday night thunderstorm killed my refrigerator/freezer. Thursday afternoon, I noticed that my ice box was filled with water with just a few ice cubes floating around. Thursday evening, it was easier to poor the ice cream than scoop it. I went into denial for awhile, but called my landlord Friday morning--the refrigerator/freezer belongs to him. Friday evening, when the freezer was warmer than my living room, I officially declared it a lost cause and pulled the plug. Saturday morning, my landlord hauled the 12-year-old refrigerator away and brought me a new one.

At noon, I met SS for a pizza lunch and to catch the movie Batman Begins. I enjoyed the movie. While the plot remained true to the generally accepted backstory, it did not try to tie into the movies already made. I did feel like one particular car chase scene was perhaps overdone, but for the most part, the action sequences were appropriately used in the movie.

Saturday evening, I was able to make ice and have cool drinks again in my refrigerator and freezer!

In church this morning, we had a visiting evangelist. He challenged the church and members to follow God's call and to not make excuses. If God has called for something to be done, we should not be finding reasons not to do it. He shared a testimony of healing that his wife has experienced. She experienced kidney failure a few years ago and was placed on dialysis for 3 hrs/3 days/week. (I don't remember right now what caused the kidney failure.) Over the past few months (year?) her doctor has been able to reduce the time she was required to be on dialysis. About 5 weeks ago, she was removed from dialysis completely. She was with him today in seemingly good health.

About 5:00, I headed over to Lovettsville. They always hold their Independence celebration on the 3rd. I watched the parade at 5:30. Then made it on down to the community center, where BRTC performed shortly after 7:00. It made me realize the number of people I'm getting to know. While finding a place to watch the parade, I stopped to talk to A&CW with their baby girl. Then I was actually able to join the Ob's in watching the parade. Just down from us were a couple of other families I also know. I'll skip everyone in the clogging group. JonM caught part of the festivities and the clogging performance on his way to a friend's. I also ran into Lisa, from church.
