A 3-day weekend

How much rest AND fun can be packed into one weekend?

I took Friday off of work. Got a couple of errands accomplished Friday morning and early afternoon, watched a movie, and took a nap. Jesse came over in the evening and we watched another movie. This time, we watched Bedknobs and Broomsticks. It was one I had never seen and one Jesse liked, so it got put on our list of movies to watch. I'd been able to borrow it from the library, so took the time to watch it before it was due.

Saturday was more relaxation and fun. I slept in, not getting up until after 10:00. Worked on a couple of minor projects around the house, watched a movie, got to visit with a PHC grad who was back visiting in the area, and took another nap in the afternoon. In the evening, Jesse and I caught a local production of Roger & Hammerstein's Cinderella. The cast included a couple of people we know personally and another one or two we've seen in other local productions. The girl playing Cinderella was definitely a master at the art of quick costume changes!

Sunday, I made it up early enough to make a pound cake (from mix) for the potluck following the 11:00 service of The Church at Round Hill. The Church at Round Hill refers to the community services held between 3 of the churches in Round Hill. It something that was just started this year. The services are held the 5th Sunday of the month and the location is being rotated between the three churches involved. These services are a joy to attend--worshipping and fellowshipping with other Christians is a great reminder of the unity we enjoy in Christ that extends well beyond the group we visit most weeks. The services are a refreshing mix of worship styles. Our church has a worship team that sings contemporary choruses. One Baptist church sings traditional hymns and has a choir that sang a selection from a cantata. The other Baptist church is an African-American congregation with a choir that shares their traditional gospel style music and brings their enthusiasm for praise.

After the service and potluck (that had LOTS of desserts), Jesse and I headed out to catch Hauntings, Hijinks, and Hoopla. It's a melodrama written by one of the members of the local community theater group. There were great laughs with friendly ghosts, villainous "cretins," and light-hearted interruptions for sponsors and olio acts.

After making it back to Purcellville in time for Awana and enjoying the evening with the kids, I wound down the weekend by visiting with my mom.
