I WAS feeling good about the war on ants. I hadn't seen any ants on my desk since before lunch!
Then I turned around to pick up something beside the desk that sits behind me (and under the window) and discovered a very active stream of the critters. They seem to be attracted to a toolbox that I have sitting at the far end of the desk. There are so many ants on it, I'm reluctant to move it.
I'm not sure what might be in the Eden Troupe toolbox that they find so appealing. Mostly, it's a collection of standard hardware--screwdrivers, pliers, hammer, nails, duct tape, etc-- some sewing supplies--scissors, velcro, safety pins, straight pins, thread, etc-- and a collection of other handy theater supplies--packing tape, glow tape, fishing wire, plastic sticky hooks, lighters, matches, pens, markers, flashlights, etc. At one time, I did have some Altoids in the box, so maybe they are still in there and have been discovered. Not coming up with anything else.
Maybe they just decided to nest in the box??
Update: The Eden Troupe toolbox had had a cardboard box sitting on top of it when I discovered the ants. Since the ants were only on the outside of the box, it was a simple matter to pull out what I needed to keep and toss the box. When I came in this morning, the ants' trail had altered significantly. The hundreds of ants that were on the toolbox yesterday were now heading diagonally down the side of the desk and out of sight along the wall. There were only a handful of ants visible on the outside of the toolbox. Moving the toolbox with care, I killed/brushed off the ants on the outside. Then proceeded to go through the inside of the toolbox to rid it of the remaining few dozen ants.
