Yes, this is mostly short-hand notes that maybe some day I'll flesh out. In the meantime, it's a post on my blog. :)
TUESDAY
Devotions: Libraries are part of “Creation” and why this means they don’t receive enough attention from the church, which is focused on redemption. Argument that the church has a Platonic view of the world/creation—confusing the Bible’s admonishes against the sins of the world, “the fall” with the “Creation.”
Keynote speaker: Randy Dykhuis
Business Meeting
First session: Information Literacy Assessment. Review of available options, including some standardized tests.
Second session: Build it they will come. Blueprint tour of newly built library with questions answered by architect and librarian about how it was designed and how it is working.
Bridal shower for SarahG at Panera’s. About 8 in attendance, including Sarah.
Trivia night. Sterling College mascot. Terrible at the rest of it—fortunately watching, not playing.
WEDNESDAY
Devotions
Publishers Panel on E-books
Vendors: Audio books. Christian publishers. Serials Solutions. Wollen, Molzan, and Partners. (Talked with Tim Fleck.)
Poster Sessions: Audiobooks (Jennifer). Library First Night. Teaching Research Strategies—focusing the topic.
Missed the Publisher’s Q&A.
Lunch with WALDO representative—WALDO database advisory board
Third Session: Information Literacy incorporated into the first year of the Liberal Studies program.
WALDO general presentation
Fourth Session: Improving One-Shot Information Literacy Sessions. Liberty University Librarian. He and son shot a video tour of the Liberty Library for freshman orientation.
Christian Library Consortium (CLC) Meeting. Offer for OCLC Services. Opportunities with WALDO. Sharing through Interlibrary Loan, especially Ariel or Odyssey.
Networking Night: Apples to Apples. Won with partners.
THURSDAY
Slept in and missed devotions.
Fifth Session: Customized Web Browser Toolbar. Creating a toolbar that users can add to their web browser to easily access Library resources. I loved the idea—in a sense I do it on my own computer and for the library staff computers by using the “Links” folder in IE Favorites. Don’t think we have enough staff time to devote to developing it or enough students that would use it to make it worthwhile.
Business Meeting
Sixth Session: What are the thinking? A look at social networking sites and software—MySpace, Facebook, IM, Reference software, RSS, Podcasting—and libraries.
Seventh Session: Skipped
Visited Meijer Gardens—sculptures. Large horse. Stack of books. Amphitheater—clogged a few steps.
Banquet.
Concert. The couple that sang had been singing together in musicals and operas for something like 14 years and have been married for about 10 years. They sang a lot of fun songs from shows they have done. They also did more serious and classical pieces. For a few of their songs, they included a couple of their voice students who had just graduated.
