On Wednesday morning, I didn't have to be at work until noon, so I went out to work on getting the yard in shape. The bees/wasps (whatever they are that have built their hive literally in the ground of our front yard) were active. I decided to spray them with the foaming spray, even though the foaming spray recommended use in the evening when the wasps are inactive. The foam blocked the entrance to the hive, so then I had more bees congregating outside as they returned.
I decided to skip the grass cutting and work on the bushes.
I opened up the step stool and locked the tray into place. It took me a bit to figure out how to unlock the tray. As I unlocked it, I realized that plastic where the tray connects to the frame of the stool is already breaking. I didn't think I'd been pushing on it that hard.
I got out the new hedge trimmer and started working on the bushes. When I got to the bush that hangs over the public sidewalk, I started working on cutting the bush back several inches, so it doesn't hang over the sidewalk. I worked at it with the clippers (big scissors), but it wasn't going quickly and I was running out of time.
When I gave up on that portion of the project, I needed to wrap-up by trimming the top of those bushes by the sidewalk. As I was doing that, I accidentally cut through the extension cord. Now our new hedge trimmer has one of its teeth ruined, with burn marks and melted rubber where the cord was severed. I haven't plugged it in again to see if it even still operates.
So now we have an overgrown lawn that was previously only 3/4 cut (when I ran out of cord on the weed whacker cutting the lawn a couple of weeks ago); bushes that are still scraggly on top, though they've been trimmed on the sides; a partially-mutilated bush in an attempt to clear it of the sidewalk; a partially broken tray on our new step stool; a ruined tooth on our new hedgetrimmer (which hopefully still works); and an extension cord with its end cut off.
I'm very blessed by my family and husband that sent me encouragement to make my day better!

I am with you in your pain! I've had some bad yard days recently, including one with a weed killer that didn't kill the weeds but the newly planted flowers instead. (And I didn't even SPRAY the flowers....) G tells me the wind must've caught the spray and carried it to the bed. The same day, I was mowing with the push mower and cracked the head. I have been banned from yard duties for a while, which makes me sad because I like working in the yard!
I hope things for you, at least, are going better at work!
hugs from Alabama,
z
