Memorial Weekend

We had a very enjoyable Memorial weekend, though what we got accomplished was limited. I think the biggest accomplishment was that Jesse got the lawn mowed! And he had mowed it only a week before! Especially after the rain the last three days, it has been nice to walk out and see our lawn looking neater than the neighbor's lawns--since that's the opposite of what we usually see.

Saturday was the Round Hill Hometown Festival. We headed to Round Hill around 9:00 in the morning. We met up with other people in the church to finish up the float for the church. I rode in the back of the truck and tossed candy. JM and another guy in the church dressed as a "demons." On a flatbed trailer, we had a couple of guys dressed in the "armour of God" and carrying the "shield of God." The "demons" spent the entire parade route jumping on and off the trailer while attacking the guys in the armour and each other. I was impressed at how well they kept it up!

After the parade, I caught the memorial service in the park while JM went to help take apart the float. I grabbed lunch--roasted pig sandwiches.--pig roasted by Mark and served by the fire department.

Then it was time for the clogging performance. There were a few glitches (I forgot part of my costume), but we had an extra person show up and it all worked out well enough. Since the other leaders of the clogging group weren't there, it fell to me to do the announcing between the songs. I didn't feel like I did a great job, but I wasn't too disappointed with it either.

Then, after "fighting" through the parade and clogging, JM spent the afternoon leading the games in the park for the church. He organized and participated in water balloon tosses, three-legged races, sack races, hula hoop contests, and more! He was exhausted by the end of the day! We went home sun-burned. Took a shower. Put on aloe vera. And laid down about 6:30 for a nap. JM thought he had set the alarm for 8:00. I guess he had--only it was 8:00 AM. So it was around 10:00 PM when we woke up. We got a bit to eat and watched an episode of Jeeves and Wooster and headed back to bed around midnight and slept the rest of the night.

Sunday morning, we went to church in the morning. Angel, father of six--ages 23 to 7--has a ministry to troubled youth. He had helped one of the teenagers in our church and is working to start a ministry to youth at the home of one of our members. He came and brought his family and some of the youth he is currently working with to share with the church what they are doing. It was my turn in the nursery, but all the reports I heard of the service were fantastic!

After the service, the whole church was invited over to the home where they are working to start the ministry and we all had lunch and visited for most of the afternoon.

JM and I headed home for the evening and relaxed there, getting a few minor things accomplished.

Monday morning, we walked over to the Leesburg town Memorial Day service at 10:00.

After the service, we met up with Andrew and Rachel and their girl and headed back home together. On the way, we made a stop at the art gallery where Ver has some pieces on display. Back at Andrew and Rachel's house, we picked home grown strawberries from their front yard and pulled together lunch. After lunch, they introduced JM and I to a role-playing game. I enjoyed it, but I'm not sure how much I'll really get into it. Rachel also pinned up a dress so that she could alter it for me to wear to SR's wedding in two weeks. I so appreciate it her doing that for me!!

JM and I had planned to head over to the home of someone from his work for the evening, but about the time we were going to leave, it started raining heavily, so we decided to just enjoy another evening at home. We did get a couple of loads of laundry done.

Tuesday, we headed back to work.
