Explosion and Fire in Anthony

Explosion and Fire in Anthony

This was the big news from my hometown today. Many prayers are going out for those involved. Pieced together from various news stories and Facebook postings from Anthony friends--the trash truck fell through some concrete (or otherwise broke something), causing a gas line to break and an explosion to occur. Jason Stitt, riding on the rear of the truck, was thrown from the truck and suffered some serious breaks and was life-watched to Wichita.

Jason Stitt, is a young man of about 20. His family lived next door to us for several years. The driver of the trash truck was probably his cousin Danny or Davy--guys that were just a year or so older and younger than I and were in the church youth group at the same time I was. Their mom, Connie, was one of the leaders of the youth group. Their dad, Mike, owns the trash service in Anthony and was a Sunday School teacher for me for a couple of years.

In unrelated (except for locale) news, less than a block from the explosion is the former First National Bank of Anthony--the 40th bank to fail this year.
