A twice-forwarded e-mail alerted me to the demise of the Red Barn in Harper. A place that, while not dear to me, did hold a strong place in my memories of the county 4-H fair. At least one year, I was part of the clean-up crew for that portion of the fairgrounds. At that time, I was barely big enough to effectively use a big push broom and the floor of the barn seemed to stretch the entire length of a block. A rather distinctive building--a large barn sitting along the main street painted the traditional barn red. It housed photo and art exhibits in the early part of my memory; business booths, a concession stand, and a group trying to raise money to maintain and restore the barn filled the safe portions of the barn in my later memories.
Fairwell, Red Barn. Your memory will remain for some.
