At the T-intersection of Loudoun and Main streets (a point I pass everytime I'm leaving or going to my house), is a stop sign that sits in the middle of the road. I mean that literally. While traffic turning off of Main onto Loudoun stays to the right of the stop sign, traffic turning off of Loudoun onto Main also stays to the right of the sign. At least, that's the way it works in theory. In reality, at least once a month, someone ends up driving OVER the sign (or at least trying to).
At the end of August, the sign had gotten bent over at about a 45 degree angle. After a few days, it was once again standing upright. Last night, I found that it had been hit again--this time completely breaking the metal post. As I was leaving this morning, it was a sight--the sign laid out perfectly straight in the road, resting at it's head on the crossed signs of Loudoun and Main while it's base and broken foot are surrounded by the shattered glass remains from its assaulter.
