Birthday, Fall Festival and Other News

Saturday was JM's birthday. I can't say I did as much this year as I did last year, but I tried to spread it out a bit through the day, especially by wishing him "Happy Birthday" every time our paths crossed on Saturday.

Fall Festival was also on Saturday. JM helped to grill 2,000 hot dogs. I think we had fewer than 100 left that weren't served at the end of the day. I spent my time making chicken soup five gallons at a time. I made about 15 gallons of chicken soup and only about 3 gallons was left at the end of the day. I just heard tonight that they estimated we had more than 50 gallons of chili donated--all of which was heated and served. At mid-afternoon on Saturday, I heard a report that more than 900 bags had been handed out to kids and they were still growing strong. I haven't heard a final number on estimated attendance. But I did hear that from a couple of groups that were sharing the gospel, there were more than 50 people that made a salvation decision on Saturday. For a private event that is funded through donations, I'm always impressed at the size of it.

And Jer? He spent the day playing games and making crafts. And since everybody gets a prize at the games, he came home with a bag full of prizes, including camo dog tags (he made sure to get a set for JM and for me, as well as a couple extra for himself), pencils, rubber duckys (he must've had a half-dozen of those too), bottles of bubble solution, candy, and gum.

Saturday evening, my nose started running. I figured being outdoors all day, I just had breathed something that had irritated my sinuses. A good shower and a good nights sleep would fix things. I woke up Sunday morning completely congested and just got to feeling worse as the day progressed. I did take some decongestant and made it through Awana. An early night to bed for me. Monday I woke up feeling decidedly better than I had been on Sunday, but my nose still ran all day and the full day at work wiped me out. Tuesday was much the same. Wednesday I slept most of the morning until I had to go to work around noon. I was tired of always blowing my nose, so had given in and started taking decongestant regularly Wednesday afternoon. I could tell as soon as the last dose wore off. But by the time I went to bed on Wednesday, my nose hadn't started running again after the last dose had worn off. Today, I've only relied on the Kleenex box minimally. And while I can't say I got to feeling better as the day wore on, I certainly haven't been getting worse as I have for the last few days.

Once again, I'm reminded how precious health is and how little patience I have for not feeling my bset. I thank God for the blessing of health and a wonderful husband who so patiently made me hot drinks and made me eat regularly, even when I didn't feel like it.
