Emergency?

Unrelated to my emergency thought, the weather today has been interesting to watch, keeping one hoping without really doing anything. There were flakes in the air in Leesburg when we got up. By the time we left, there was a light dusting on vehicles and a hint of accumulation on the ground.

When I arrived in Purcellville, there were flakes here as well and just the slightest accumulation in the parking lot.

Later in the morning, there was some trace accumulation on the concrete in the delivery area outside my window. But then later that all melted. Now the flakes are smaller and hard to see at all through the window screen, but there is some accumulation on the concrete again.

A report from Winchester indicates they have about an inch on the ground already and still falling.

On to the emergency? About chapel time this morning, the emergency alarm sounded in the main building (including the library). There had been no announcement of scheduled testing of the alarm, so I treated it (relaxedly) as a real alarm.

It continued going off for about a minute--long enough for me to walk through the library and clear out the one student using a computer. Then they announced that the alarm could be disregarded and it went silent.

I let the student back into the library with no more clue as to how real the emergency might have been.

When I went to the dining hall a few minutes later to get a drink, I found that some of the maintenance department were working in the lobby with a hole cut in the ceiling close to the main entrance. Along the closest wall were water marks, as if it had been sprayed from above. So I'm guessing there must have been some sort of water leak that set off the alarm. With no computers or other such equipment in the area, it appeared that the damage should be minimal, but I don't know what it looked like above the ceiling.

Glad to know the alarm system is still working!
