Day of Surprises

I can't say today went as I planned. Some of it was good, but some of it wasn't so good.

I was feeling relatively productive at work today--getting some things done and making progress on other projects.

About 2:45 the emergency alarm went off in the building. We moved to start clearing out the library, just because that's what is supposed to happen when the groundskeeper came by and said, "This isn't a test. Everyone out." After standing outside for about 15 minutes rumor had it that a pipe had burst in the attic over the other end of the building. We were allowed back in, but everyone was to collect their things and leave. HSLDA and PHC closed for the rest of the day with the remaining classes canceled. All power was cut to the building by 3:30 to minimize problem with all the elecrical wires that were wet. The pipe broke over membership--which is right next door to tech and the server room. The water had already spread that far by 3:00, so all the servers had been shut-down. Before I left, I heard that water was getting into the kitchen, which was down a level and even closer to the center of the building than tech. Since the break was at the opposite end of the building from the library, it didn't reach the library (at least it hadn't when I left and I'm assuming I would be called if they found that it had gotten into the library).

Since we were leaving work early, SS invited me over to her house to hang and have supper. By supper time, we had decided that our evening activity would be re-arranging my living room. About 7:00, SS followed me home and we spent the next 3.5 hours leisurly deciding where things should be in my living room, picking up, and re-arranging. By moving my desk over a foot or so, I can have wireless Internet access while use my computer, IF it is sitting on the desk and a phonebook (a definite improvement over sitting on the floor in front of my open door). I now have a cozy area for conversation, reading, and movie watching. I also have a small table that can be used as a catch for mail, etc. Now I just need to go through the pile of letters, catalogs, etc that we piled around the computer desk.

Next major goal: purge of all unneccessary items from my bedroom.
