Yesterday afternoon, I interviewed the second person in two weeks for the Library Assistant position. Where each candidate is weak, the other candidate is strong. This will be a difficult decision, if I decide to hire either candidate. I sometimes wonder if I'm expecting too much; looking for the "perfect candidate" that doesn't exist.
About 5:00, my student worker came in to inform me that we had run out of supplies to disable the security feature in the books when checking them out. Fortunately we didn't need anymore at the moment with the library closing at 5:30. I was able contact our supplier and place an order before they closed at 6, but it still won't ship until Monday and isn't guaranteed before 4:30 on Tuesday. Since the library was to be open today (12noon-6PM), Monday, and Tuesday, we needed something before 4:30 Tuesday.
Based on a suggestion, and following experimentation, it was determined that the local public library's supplies are compatible with our system. The public library was already closed until 10AM this morning. Since I was out of town today, I borrowed a cell phone at 10AM and determined that the public library would be willing to share their supply. I then called a friend to make the pick up and deliver it to the college library before the student opened the library at noon. I guess I'll stop by tomorrow long enough to make sure the library survived.
After work yesterday evening, I got Jesse to help me do some re-arranging in the library. One of our display shelves was sitting where it was giving our security system fits. By moving the copier a couple of feet, we were able place the bookcase by the copier and move a file cabinet to where the shelves had been. I hope this really is the answer to the security system's problem.
Today, I re-discovered 6:00 morning hour to leave by 7:00 for a clogging workshop 40 minutes south of here. With somewhere just over 230 cloggers, it was a fun day of picking up new steps, learning new dance routines, and meeting other cloggers. The Blue Ridge Thunder Cloggers were selling our t-shirts and pins to raise money for our Ireland trip in August. The rough count I heard at the end of the day was very encouraging.
In the evening, there was a fun dance consisting of simple songs that could be called and exhibition dances by the groups represented. As the fun dance closed, one of the non-dancers that had been watching through the evening took the time to give me a compliment, "You are a joy to watch." That really made my day! I don't consider myself a great dancer, especially not at the end of today, when I was tired and trying to dance songs I had barely learned. But for me, dance is an expression of joy in life, an outlet for frustrations, and a way to forget about myself while sharing the experience of the music.
