Christmas Plans

Here it is--not even June yet--and I've got plans and plane tickets for Christmas!

A few weeks ago, I had mentioned to my parents that I have a nice break between semesters (Dec 15-Jan 17) in the library and that would be a good time for someone to come visit.

This week, D sent me an e-mail about noon on Wednesday alerting me to the fact that United had posted airfares from IAD to DFW for $103 round-trip--a deal of a price to fly half-way across the country in just a couple of hours. With the price good through the 18th of January (with practically no blackout dates), D coordinated a conference call between the two of us and our parents to make Christmas plans.

The result: I'll be flying out to Dallas to D's the Thursday evening before Christmas (22nd). Christmas in Dallas or Kansas hasn't been completely decided, but I do expect to make it up to Kansas either for Christmas or go back up with the family after Christmas. After the new year, I'll fly back to VA on Jan 4 and bring my sister L with me for a visit. Then D will fly out here to VA on Thursday evening (12th) and stay through the weekend before she and L fly back to Dallas on Monday evening (16th). I haven't heard exactly how L will make it back to KS from Dallas, I'm sure that detail will work out somehow.

Now I've just got to brainstorm activities for L & D's visit. L took an interest in clogging when I was home last Christmas, so clogging practice is definitely on the "to do" list. I haven't made it to the new air & space museum, so I think I'll work that in while L & D are both here. I'm open to suggestions of other sights and activities that would be of interest to an 11-yr-old girl.

this is the NATION's capital, girl. There's all sorts of stuff to go see! The whole "mall" of musseums downtown, "Old Towne": Alexandria, Fairfax, Leesburg, . . . For a bit of a drive, there's the aquarium in Baltimore, there's a smaller one here in DC too. All the memorials and sites to see downtown (most of which are free ;), should keep a person busy).

Heading out the other way there are all the caverens. (though those may be seasonally open. You'd have to check). Being the first state EVER to have people in it, we are swimming in historic sites. If you're up to a long (4hr one way) one day trip or set up to stay a little, Williamsburg is SO SO amazing at Christmas time- a bit more before then after, but even a few hours make a big diff in weather :D. And then of course, there's skiing on all the moutains we've got around here. And hit the malls for the after X-mas sales! :D See, there's so much to do.
Don't get caught up in being so busy, to miss out on just good old fashion "family time". Make a puzzel or play a long board game or work on some craft project- scrapbooking your trip's photos).
(BTW- I agree, the new air and space is on my list too. Haven't gotten to it yet. It has air force 1 in it; how cool is that?! and the spy one too; need to find time to go there).
