Here we are (L and I) in the plane flying to Virginia.
Quite a bit of time has passed since the update on Friday.
Saturday, New Years Eve, started out with a somewhat relaxing morning. D drove in from TX and arrived by 9:30. JM and I practiced clogging all the line dances we were confident we knew (4 of them). It had been more than 3 weeks since I’d clogged!
Around mid-afternoon, there was a family gathering (Dad’s side) at my grandparents. All of my dad’s brothers and sister made it and most of their spouses, though none of my cousins. JM and I performed for the group the four clogging songs we’d practiced.
In the evening, the church youth group gathered for a lock-in to see the year in. Everybody joined the group for bowling, pizza, and the beginning of games and karaoke. After JM and I performed a clogging song, I left with the group that headed home around 10:00PM. I was fighting a cold and was tired. I didn’t stay up to see the new year in! JM and SR stayed a while longer, coming home just after midnight. SC and my dad were the only ones from out house to stay out the night. My dad slept at the church starting about 2:30AM. SC caught about an hour of sleep at 7:00AM. The youth group then prepared and served the church breakfast at 8:30AM. It was a quiet and tired group!
Sunday afternoon, my mom’s only brother and his wife came for a visit. After Sunday evening service, we set up in the living room my laptop with the family’s flat-screen computer monitor to watch Scarlet Pimpernel.
Monday morning was packing and good-byes. We had a brunch of biscuits and gravy. Then my parents and SC headed off to take JM to the airport. The rest of us (the four sisters) finished packing D’s car and headed down to TX.
I’d been fighting a cold since early in the weekend, so I was feeling wiped out by the time we arrived in TX. I headed to bed around 8:30 and slept for most of 11 hours. I woke up feeling much more rested, but still very congested—to the point it was affecting my hearing.
Tuesday, L and I spent the day relaxing. The morning we just lazed around the house. D picked us up for lunch. Then we took her car and hung out at a lake/pond (in a local housing development) and the library for the afternoon. It was an absolutely gorgeous day! I was just wearing a long-sleeved t-shirt and was quite comfortable. Tuesday evening, we went to GFA prayer meeting. As I was still fighting my cold, I wasn’t able to enjoy it as much as usual, but I always find their prayer meetings challenging, encouraging, and refreshing.
As I was climbing into bed that night, I gave a yawn. Suddenly, my ears popped and my head seemed much clearer. For the first time in several nights, I was able to go to sleep breathing normally. I praise God, my cold has cleared enough that what congestion is left doesn’t seem to be causing me problems while flying!
We were also blessed that we were able to spend our last morning in TX with our sister SR!
