Quick Post

Well, I've made it through my first three days at work. I can't say I've been particularly productive. I've still got a pile of invoices I need to deal with and a list of things that need done before the site team arrives a week from this Sunday.

In the meantime, new students are arriving on Monday. I'll be presenting their half-hour library orientation on Tuesday AM. And I'll be spending all day (9-4) on Monday and Tuesday with the faculty in the Faculty Development Workshops. Wednesday classes start. I'm scheduled to start the semester off by working Wednesday evening until about 9:00. Thursday and Friday will be split between putting out all the "fires" of getting everything up to speed with students for the new semester and getting my list of things done for the site visit team.

This week, the new copiers/printers/fax machines were installed in the library. Now instead of having two printers, two fax machines, and one copier, we will have two machines that do all three and will still keep one printer for label printing (spine labels, address labels, etc). We have two machines, since it is impossible with our network set up to have staff and students printing to the same machine. Of course, along with having all three main functions, it has a variety of other features we didn't have--scan to e-mail, staple in multiple ways, hole punch, hold print jobs in memory, track usage by usercode, etc. There is one thing it doesn't do that our previous copier did--like staple a stack papers it didn't copy. Oh well, I guess the trade-off is worth it!

So one thing on the list for next week will be to stay one step ahead of students and staff in figuring out how the new machines work and if our policies have changed.
