A Saturday

Well, JM is with his family in Pennsylvania this weekend buying a new car and I'm in Virginia visiting with a library consultant.

He really is working on the paperwork to buy the car right now...or at least he was in the last 20 minutes. He had a busy day. Taking the old car in this morning to get an estimate on repairs, as there is a good chance he'll sell the car to his family. Looking at and test driving a total of at least 3 different cars at 2 different dealerships. And yes, he still got to hold his little niece and visit with his family. I wish I were there.

My day has been busy in its own sense. I did sleep in this morning until about 9:30. Spent some time reading--non-fiction, informative, but still interesting. Started a couple loads of laundry.

Made it into work around 12:30 expecting the consultant to be arriving maybe around 1:00. At work, I found an e-mail that he had sent at 7:30 this morning with a list of 13 things he wanted to look at while he was here. Everything from the library's mission statement to library committee meeting minutes. I immediately set to work digging out the various pieces and printing them out to go in a 3-ring binder with dividers.

The consultant arrived closer to 2:00. I was introduced to him at that time, but he met first with the Provost--a few more minutes to work on pulling together the list of materials. By the time he was ready to meet with me, I had about half of the materials in the 3-ring binder. About half of the rest was printed out, just not yet organized with dividers.

I took him on a tour of the library and then we spent a good bit of time talking about the collection (what was in the collection, what I wanted to see in the collection, what we could do to better involve the faculty in developing the collection, etc). We also talked about other plans for the library--adding shelving and seating and, eventually, expanding.

After our meeting, I had just over an hour before the consultant and the Provost went to supper together. In that time, I pulled together the last of the materials for the 3-ring binder, IM'd my mother, talked with JM, and helped the consultant get on PHC's wireless network.

Since then, I've gone through some bills and updated my mailing address and name with one of my credit cards and the cell phone company.

I think I'm ready to head home. First, I'll stop at the post office (pick-up mail and mail 2 letters) and stop at the grocery store. There are a couple of recipes I'd like to try in the next week or so, just need a few ingredients and staple items. I've promised to call my mom tonight (since she was on the phone when I tried to call her last night). I should finish the laundry and the dishes too. Also have some letters that I need to write soon.

There's a wintery mix moving into the area early tomorrow. If it is as bad as they are making it sound, churches could be canceling in the morning.
