Lent and Pre-Lent

Lent is early this year. I was almost caught by surprise. I didn't realize it was this week until about Monday. Having recently finished observing my home church's month-long new year's fast (similar to lent, in some respects), it feels almost like one longer stretch of re-focusing my life on God and perhaps, along the way, implementing some new habits (or breaking old ones).

Yesterday, my neighbors shared with me some of the donuts from their Fastnachts Day tradition. Thanks, Megan! Very good!

Of course, Pre-Lent and Lent observations are scattered through out my friends' blogs. Amy's "Fat Tuesday" observations question the value of Mardi Gra. And Sara's "Lenten Farewell" reveals her resolution to give up blogging for the duration of Lent. While Ben's Mom will refrain from movie watching.

I'm thinking I'd better not give up blogging, since my parents feel like that is the only way they hear from me.
