Some events and thoughts

Saturday morning was supposed to be a clogging performance, but we arrived to find the stage inadequate and unsafe for dancing. For the first time ever, the group had to cancel for a reason other than weather.

Sunday evening, JM and I went out on our "first date." We attended a production of Shakespeare's "The Tempest." We ran inte Mr. & Mrs. G and their son when we arrived and we chose to sit with them. One of their teen daughters had interned with the production and she and her sister were both taking tickets and ushering.

The show was produced and performed locally in small-town Round Hill, but they had managed to bring in a number of professional actors. The performance was in the old elementary gym. They had turned practically the entire gym into their stage. The action ocurred on a specially built stage that took up close to half the floor down the length of the room. In the space that was left, rows of chairs were placed on either side facing the stage in the center of the room. Material for curtains was ordered by the bolt and hung along all the walls, enclosing the audience into the world of the play with the actors. The result was an intimate experience between audience and action that is worth remembering.

Monday was the first day of class. The library has gone into the week with a whole list of technical problems. Unfortunately for us, I.T.'s first priority is getting onto the network all of the computers that student brought. I can understand why that's more important than our problems, but it doesn't make our problems any easier to work around.

Tuesday night during clogging, I took off my watch and dropped it in my pants pocket. I put my watch back on sometime around 9:15-9:30. Two and a half hours later when I checked the time, my watch was still saying 9:40. I made sure the stem wasn't pulled out for setting the time and I tapped on it a couple of times. Nothing. Since I can't remember for sure when I last replaced the battery, but suspect it was at least 1.5-2 years ago, I'm hoping that will do the trick. If not, I'm going to be very disappointed. This is the watch my parents gave me for 8th grade graduation and I don't want to have to give it up.
