I posted JM and my activities for the past week on NLJF, so I won't bother to repeat it all here.
I believe I have made a part-time hire for the library for the coming year. AG is scheduled to start tomorrow and will work a couple of afternoons/evenings each week and will be part of our Saturday staff rotation.
Yesterday, we ran into a problem scheduling our student workers for the semester. Nobody was willing and able to work the Wednesday evening closing shift (8:30-11:30pm). Everyone either had class during that shift or had 8:00 class in the morning. Now I know it's not impossible to be up at 11:30PM in the evening and still be at 8:00AM class and probably most of our students do it. But they have requested to not work the closing shift when they have class the next morning and as they are students first, I feel like we should respect that request. Though if it continues to be a problem, we may have to revisit the issue. One proposed solution for this semester would be to have AC or I work until closing that night.
Classes have gotten off to a start here at PHC. There have been LOTS of students adding and changing classes. Someone suggested it might be partially due to a lack of professors.
I heard word yesterday that a new registrar has been hired to start in early September. Our current registrar is leaving at the end of September to get married.
Last semester, I had a system of keeping track of projects that I was working on. But it fell apart over the summer. I'm working on re-establishing the system, but in a slightly different format.
I'm doing a library presentation in the Historical Research Methods class today. I'm doing another presentation for each of the five sections of Research & Writing next week.
