Uggh! Sometimes my "filing" system completely fails me.
The piles on my desk (and on the floor around my office) truly got out of control sometime late in the summer. Last week, I started making some progress in sorting through these piles and re-gaining space and control of portions of my office.
Late last week, I received a call from a vendor asking about an invoice that was nearly 60 days past due (unacceptable in any iteration of my world). Normally, I would've asked them to send me a copy of the invoice and just created a PO to take care of it. But since I was cleaning and was relatively sure that I had done a PO already, I asked for a couple days to look into it.
By Monday, I had found a copy of the duplicate invoice that they had sent me. Today, I found the original invoice attached to the fully approved PO. It is beyond my memory as to why this PO and invoice were not turned into accounting and paid weeks (if not months) ago. All I needed to do was put it in the interoffice envelope to go to accounting. But apparently, I put it in a pile on my desk and covered it up. :(
And I continue to dream of not letting my piles get out of hand and maybe even having a filing system that someone else could understand and use (like with real folders and labels).
