I received a phone survey call this morning that I didn't really mind finishing. She got right to the point, "We have two questions to ask you. Your opinion matters." She then proceeded to ask two (count them--2) questions: If the election were today, who would I vote for in the Virginia race for Govenor; and from her list, what would be my most important consideration (education, homeland security, etc). Then it was "Thank you. This survey is sponsored by..." (I don't remember exactly--an education coalition or some such.)
There no trying to sneak in additional questions to gather demographic information. And it was not a numerous, time-consuming number of questions that all have to be answered with "strongly agree, agree, disagree, strongly disagree" or another variation of the same 3-5 answers to pick from for every question.
If I have to do a detailed survey, I'd much rather do it on paper--where I can scan the entire survey to start with, answer the questions in the order that I want to answer them (the easy ones first), and not feel so self-consious about picking the same answer for 80% of my responses.
