Thanksgiving Break Round-Up

It's been a fun break, but way too short!

Thursday, Thanksgiving Day. Slept in. Prepared a green bean casserole. Went to the Smith's at noon for Thanksgiving dinner. There were four of us total, with the Smiths, myself, and a PHC student. The meal was wonderfully delicious--a perfectly done turkey, mashed potatoes, herb bread, green bean casserole, hot apple pie a la mode.

Just before I had left for dinner, details had fallen into place for me to get into DC that evening for the clogging convention. We arrived around 7:30, well in time to enjoy the evening's fun dance--learned a couple of new songs, danced a few favorites, and took in the atmosphere of fun.

Friday. Was very thankful that I was able to stay in bed until well after 7:00 (instead of having to be up before 6:00). Danced. Learned a bit about some of the dance forms that have influenced clogging. Danced. Helped sell t-shirts to help the group raise money to go to Ireland. Supper at Fuddruckers with the group. Enjoyed a dance show highlighting the different branches of the military. More dancing at the evening's fun dance. Talked. Talked. Got to bed sometime after 1:00.

Saturday. More dancing. Decided to go home Saturday night, instead of Sunday morning, so checked out of my room. Danced some more. Learned a bit about choreography. Supper with the group at Chipolte's. Enjoyed an exhibition show. Watched individual and duet free-style competitions for the first time. Caught part of the fun dance. Headed home around 11:30. Had to stop and pick up my car and was driving in rain. Didn't make it home until around 1:30.

Sunday. Helped with the 2 & 3 year olds during church. Picked up lunch at Subway. Spent the afternoon and evening catching up on ILL's and other projects in the library. Big thanks to Jesse for helping make progress in the ILL processing!

What I can say here about the clogging convention would never adequately sum up how much fun the time was (and how much I needed the break from the library). There were more than 30 people from the Blue Ridge Thunder Cloggers that were there for some time through the two days. I was able to spend time visiting with people that I don't generally have much time to talk to. I got to meet other dancers from across the nation. And it was a treat to stay in the Renaissance hotel in DC.
