AM started Monday as the new Library Assistant. Right now, I'm positive that things will work out well. We've been doing training for three days and he seems to be picking up on the library software and some of what is happening in the library. Of course, most of what has happened so far has been walking through something step-by-step and then he's able to repeat it immediately. It will be more telling as I ask him to do something 2-3 days later how much review I have to do.
In some ways, it has felt like a long 3 days. I spend my day talking about various aspects of the library and the software we use. I'm trying to combine both theory and practice--including enough of the theory so that he can understand the context in which decisions are made AND enough of the practical with detail so that when something is irregular it can be recognized. At the end of the day, my throat is sore from talking, my brain feels like mush, and I haven't accomplished anything I can point to.
I can't remember or imagine what it must be like to be on the receiving end of so much information.
Even though these few days aren't much fun, I know that already, he's able to do some things that took away from my time and there continue to be more things that he can do. It should only get better from here.
