New student library orientation is two weeks from today.
We've accomplished some things in the library this summer:
- JH & SH shifted the books on the shelves.
- With the help of a number of volunteers, we inventoried the books on the shelves.
- JH & I cleaned out the store room and sorted the uncataloged books.
- I've ordered and bought new books.
- JH has added more than 300 titles to the catalog.
- We've talked about and worked on what the needs of the library will be for the next few years and beyond.
- We've thought through some of our work processes and updated the circulation notebook (student assistant manual), the Library FAQ sheet, and the User Guide.
Goals for the next two weeks:
- Update the Library web site.
- Help I.T. get all our computers ready. (At the moment we have two dead--HD failure and NIC failure. We also have two sick--pending HD failure and adware infection. And I.T. is in the midst of making significant changes that affect our public computers. Other I.T. projects are pending.)
- Work with web department on E-Resource and Periodical Listing search change, as needed
- Develop an initial work schedule for library student assistants.
- Continue updating the e-resources list.
- Keep up with regular ordering of books and processing of PO's.
- Get EZProxy links updated and ready for IP change
- Contact new faculty members for individualized library tours and orientation.
- Prepare for student library orientation.
- See how many of the remaining optional and on-going projects can be worked on and completed. (Minor changes to the Library catalog. Interviews of PHC founders available on CD. Planning for library expansion.)
- Get back in the habit of business casual dress and 8:30 arrival time for work.
