The first week of December went by quickly. Monday and Tuesday were pretty normal, as I worked late on Monday and went to clogging on Tuesday. Wednesday was the last day of classes for PHC and JS had returned from two back-to-back conferences.
Thursday started out as a long day. The faculty were in meeting from 9:30-3:30. Thursday evening was the PHC Christmas party—a much more enjoyable 2.5 hours. JM attended the party with me. G&SS and MS also caught a ride in my car. It was very much a stand-and-mingle event, so opportunities to talk casually with co-workers I’m not normally able to chat with and visit with some spouses that I don’t see regularly. By the end of the evening, I was ready to get off my feet and out of my heels.
About midnight Thursday night/Friday morning, the predicted snow moved in. By morning, 4-5 inches had accumulated. I went into work late Friday morning. By then, the sun had already come out and was making a noticeable start to melting the accumulation. The last couple of days have continued sunny and well over freezing. There are broad stretches of brown, but there are also still broad stretches of snow anywhere that has not had constant sun.
Friday afternoon, I was pleasantly surprised by a package from my sister D. The primary reason for mailing the box was to send me a pair of wooden elephant bookends that she had bought for me on her trip to India (more than a year ago) and a couple of candle holders. Also in the box was a book, some chocolate, and the travelers that have made their appearance on this blog.
The travelers are visiting in VA and are expected to return to TX with me at Christmas. The black cat belongs to Jen and has never officially been chrisened. She has been called Kitty often. Other suggested monikers include Catarina and Hula. The other traveler, Hoops, belongs to Katie. The adventures of Hula & Hoops will continue to be reported on this blog, while they are with me.
I think I’ll end this blog here for now. Hopefully I’ll have time very soon to review the Narnia movie, which I saw Friday night, and give a summary of my weekend before I head too deeply into the coming week, which has every evening scheduled.
