Whew! I just submitted the library portion of the college's strategic plan for 2007-2013. I've been working on it so long, I'm sure there are blatant grammatical and spelling errors in the plan. And, of course, there will be others reviewing it who might have additional ideas or suggestions for changes, but I've at least got it turned in for the moment.
In some ways, the hardest part of the plan was the most fun--the library expansion, scheduled in the plan for Fall 2007. Of course, the expansion is pursuant upon the student center being completed, so could possibly get delayed, but I still got to dream about and explain what will be needed in the larger space. Since we are almost tripling the space that we currently have, there's significant room for dreaming.
We will be tripling the amount of reading and study space (from 50 seats to 150 seats). The biggest changes in that area is that I want to add more group study rooms and have a self-serve drink area (coffee, tea, pop) with some comfortable reading chairs.
The other change that I hope to be able to anticipate is more and better staff work areas! I've asked for a separate area for processing ILL's, a real desk and work space for my full-time staff (right now, her computer is sitting on a folding table surrounded by cabinets with supplies that everyone accesses daily--absolutely no sense of personal space or privacy), a separate area for processing and repairing our books, a book drop that delivers books to the staff in the library, and even a break room. I'm not holding my breathe on the last one, but I figured it doesn't hurt to ask.
On to my weekend! However, the weather isn't looking as nice as I'd like for the weekend. There's predictions for snow (possibly significant quantities of it) Sunday afternoon and evening--when the cloggers are going to be performing in DC. I guess I'll just have to dress warmly and make the best of it. I'm wishing I had a pair of insulated coveralls, as we've been strongly discouraged from adding layers UNDER our clogging costumes. (One can overheat while clogging, even in colder conditions.) As the costume includes jeans, I'm not sure what I have that I can layer OVER my jeans. My legs may be cold.
