I've heard the question for years, "Are you any relation to Bill Gates?"
"Why yes, he's my dad's second cousin--owns a small business outside my hometown in Kansas. Oh, you meant the software guy?"
Looks like I could be hearing a new question, "Are you any relation to Robert Gates?"
"Yes, he was my grandfather. I miss him since he died in January. Oh, you mean Bush's replacement of Rumsfield as Secretary of Defense?"

Ah - that's almost as bad as the questions I get... "hahaha - do you know that song 'Oh, Susanna, don't you cry for me'?" (And then they usually start singing it...) So I've learned to head it off by says "Hi, I'm Susanna. Yes, I am from Alabama but I don't play the banjo." That usually stops them in their tracks. (But it was worse when I actually LIVED in Alabama!)
I'm surprised how many times I get comments about Dorothy, Toto, Wizard of Oz, etc JUST because I'm from Kansas. At least, I haven't found anything else in my life that I have in common with the movie.
