Weekend Happenings

My weekend was filled with a variety of events.

Saturday AM, I attended a bridal shower brunch about an hour away in MD. The shower was for a young woman I met through work 3-4 years ago. She will be getting married later this month and moving to CA. I expect they will be very happy!

Saturday afternoon, I did some quick cleaning of the house for company coming later.

Late in the afternoon, I met up with Joanna to run some errands, do some shopping, have supper, and attend a community theater performance of Guys & Dolls.

The performance of Guys & Dolls was fun. I don't believe I've seen this as a stage performance before. They were able to eliminate some of the scene changes and keep the plot moving, as compared with the movie, but the result was some lines that lost their supporting setting. One point where it was particularly noticable was the bet about Mindy's desserts being made in the street instead of over a plate of Mindy's dessert. The actors got into their characters and shared their joy of exploring the created world. As always, I came from the musical wanting to dance.

I had a couple of friends spend the night. We were able to enjoy time on Sunday through church, lunch, and a visit to the park.

Sunday evening, I spent some time working on my current jigsaw puzzle that I hadn't worked on for a few months. My goal is to have it done by Christmas.

I saw a Johnson County, KS theatre-in-the-park production of Guys and Dolls about three weeks ago. The Kansas production, too, had some inconsistencies when translating from film to stage: in particular, the sewer scene where Sky sings "Luck Be a Lady, Tonight."

Overall, the scene changes and transitions seemed to be more fluid than what you described in your entry. The production used a floating piece backdrop which tripled as the inside of the mission, the exterior of the mission, and the backdrop to Adelaide's dance numbers in the restaurant.
