Ok, I've never met Matt and haven't spoken with Rachel since she met him more than five years ago. But our families have kept in touch and I'm very happy to hear that one of my best childhood friends is engaged!
Rachel's family lived in the same town as my family when we were pre-school and young grade school children. We had sleepovers, roller skated on the big wrap-around porch at her house, played house, danced like crazy to all our favorite kids music tapes, and did all the things young friends do. Then her family moved to another town several hours away. Our families still visited. We had more sleep overs, flew kites, jumped off porches (gave myself shin splints), and chatted about growing up and dreamed about having our own families. Then her family moved half-way across the country. Our families don't travel to see each other. We've each gone off to college, visited foreign countries, and led our own lives. Our families exchanged Christmas letters and a few odd e-mails, but we largely have lost contact with each other.
So I was very excited and happy when my parents forwarded to me the e-mail from her parents announcing her engagement and the link to the blog post that told the story.
They may never see this, but Congratulations, Rachel & Matt!! My very best wishes for you for MANY, MANY years!
