Round Hill Hometown Festival

Today was Round Hill's second annual hometown festival.

There were alot of activities, events, and entertainment through the day. I only took in a piece of the day, but thoroughly appreciated the small-town feel of people stopping to mingle and to share and enjoy time with friends and neighbors.

I started the day by walking to the end of my drive to watch the parade at 10:30AM. The parade included several boy scout troops and girl scout troops, a few antique cars, and Round Hill's entire fleet of emergency vehicles. There was even a band--four teenage guys playing drums and three electric guitars.

I had planned to return home to get sunscreen after the parade. Instead, I attended the veteran's memorial service in the park. This was followed by BBQ Pork sandwich for lunch. Then I spent until 4 in the afternoon helping to man the velcro wall. Yes, velcro wall. You know, the sheet of velcro loops hung on an air wall with a trampoline in front of it. Kids (and adults) put on a suit of velcro hooks, then use the trampoline to propel themselves to stick as high on the wall as they can. The really cute ones were the little 4-6 year olds that would be thrown to stick 10 feet up the wall--then they would just hang there until they were pulled down.

There was variety of entertainment in the park, including a martial arts demonstration, the local high school jazz band, a pie eating contest, and "The Funny Guy."

At the end of the day, I was tired and had a headache and a sunburn. But the only thing I would've done differently is taken the time to put on my sunscreen before the parade.
