Guess I should find something to post before too many people start to wonder if I've dropped out of existence.

I've been reading Laughing Space--a collection of funny sci-fi stories, poems, and comics collected by Isaac Asimov and his wife. In that context, someone dropping out of existence--or at least leaving for another time--isn't so far-fetched. But I'm writing here to say that hasn't happened yet to me!

USA Today published their 2004 All-USA Teacher Team. In this list of 20 is Pamela Hall, a woman who has spent the last 15 years teaching in Germany and has recently moved back to the states. According to her brother-in-law (who works here at PHC) she is a Christian and will begin homeschooling her two sons this year.

Saturday, SS hosted a girls' football day, inviting myself and a few students over to her place to watch the K-State v. OU game. It was at least a respectable game, which was much better than I feared would happen. Of course, the OU fan present was firm in her belief that OU was having a bad day to even let K-State into the game. Guess we all have our own opinions. :)

In the next couple of weeks, I get to learn how to be a FSU fan. SS is a hard core Seminoles fan and got tickets to the FSU v. Maryland game on the 30th. Since her husband isn't thrilled about going to the game, she invited me to join her.

I'm counting my blessings that the staff and student computer networks at PHC are independent. The student network has been plagued with problems over the weekend and maybe beginning as early as Thrusday morning last week. The problems do affect the library's public computers, but they are still usable at least at some levels--general web browsing is working most of the time.

I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that I was preparing to do an interview for the position that is open in the library. A few of you have asked for updates. The interview went well, I thought. But a few days later, before I was able to make an offer, she contacted me to say that she had taken another position. The position is still open. Still praying for the right person to apply. Still working to balance work and life and keep my stress levels down.

Also working to get the search for another librarian moving.

Of course, dealing with computers and open position searches is getting done (supposedly) between working on the irregular ILL requests, ordering and cataloging books, and handling all the accounting and paperwork that is required. Oh yeah, I haven't even touched any accreditation reports or long-term planning that anybody might be wanting.

My apologies for the complain session.

Before I sign off and get real work done--Congratulations to my sister L on winning the Coslett Award! The top 4-H demonstrater in Harper County for 2003-4.
