I don't think it has really hit me yet. It doesn't feel real. JH was here yesterday. Two days out of the week I don't see him until noon. Only around noon did it start to sink in at all. I had e-mailed the library student assistants last night. As they came in today, they expressed their surprise, disbelief, and sympathy for the position I've been left in. They've been very supportive, being willing to assume extra hours and additional responsibilities. ILL will be the most pressing issue with already 150+ items headed our way and probably 30+ additional requests being made each of the last couple of days. The bulk of the work already is or readily can be picked up by students, but there are still a few obstinant requests I will have to handle. I'll have to put some time into running reports and clearing fines and other such tasks that can be a bit tedious and time-consuming, but are rather noticable to students and faculty. Somehow it will all come out.
