Wheatland Manor

I think it was in my first week working that I noticed that "Wheatland" was located 5 miles north of the college, according to the green city distance sign located next to the college. Being from the land of wheat, I just had to see what sort of town claimed the name of Wheatland in my new home. When I drove the distance, I was disappointed to only find a single sign for "Wheatland Manor" at the entrance to what appeared to a historic estate.

Recently, Wheatland Manor came to my attention again as the prospective location for an American Heritage Center. While Wheatland Manor has the latest technology in its buildings, the owners have preserved the historical look and feel of the main plantation buildings. Playing off the historical look and feel and taking advantage of the latest technology, the American Heritage Center could promote knowledge and use of activities that tend to get lost in this present day--growing gardens and crops; making things that are useful, unique and beautiful (soap, weavings, quilts, etc); and the sharing of history through stories, songs, and dance. (Ok, that is one run-away sentence. But I don't feel like re-wording it.) Can't you think of the things that you appreciate and others should, but don't?
