We got a lot of rain and wind in this area yesterday afternoon and through most of the night.
Yesterday, about 5:25, I was standing in my office observing the storm and noticing the lightning. I saw a bolt of lightning strike beyond the trees and heard the crash of thunder at the same time. I was startled. And I realized that all the lights were out.
Library closes at 5:30 anyway. We saw everyone out, unplugged all the computers and equipment, and locked the doors.
It wasn't raining very hard when I walked to my car, but there was still a sheet of water over practically the entire parking lot. There was a creamy-brown stream where dirt from a repair project was washing away--from the stairs by the loading dock, past the maintenance trailers, down to the trash bin, then across the lot toward Lake Bob.
I went back to the library today to work on cleaning up some files in my office. The electricity was out until after 1:30.
Now I'm having problems with my voicemail. I hear the stutter dial tone that indicates I have new voicemail. But when I call in to the voicemail service, it doesn't recognize that I'm calling from my home phone. When I do get in, it says I don't have any new messages. Annoying. And, of course, it's the weekend, so I can't get a live person at Verizon.
One good thing, with all the wind, I haven't seen as many limbs down as I was afraid I would. Maybe I didn't look in the right place or they all got cleaned up before I went out.
