I'm normally one that HATES to see Christmas decorations up before Thanksgiving. It gives me the sense that people are skipping Thanksgiving, one of my favorite holidays. But, we just put up the Christmas decorations in the library. I justify it by saying that the students are off on break and won't see the decorations until after Thanksgiving. Even when the students are back from Thanksgiving, they'll only have 16 days from then until the end of finals, then they'll all be gone again.
We haven't done up the library like this before--I just didn't have the creativity, resources, or time to spend on it. AC is much more the creative type, was able to borrow decorations from her family's collection, and was able to give a few hours to it on this slow day with students gone.
We have a nativity scene set-up at the circulation desk again (that's as much as we'd gotten done in past years) and loops of garland along the front of the desk. We have 6' tree standing near the main entrance with colored lights, red-bead garland, and blue and gold balls. There were three wreaths, so they got hung on doors in the library. The three columns in the main area of the library each got wrapped with a different decoration--evergreen garland, red-bead garland, or colored lights. Gold raffia bows accent the decorating.
A BIG thanks to AC for providing the decorations, the creative impetous, and the organization. Thanks also to BK (student assistant) and JM for helping.
