Last night, I attended the Jones' 4th Annual All Saints' Day Party. A small party of about a dozen people. Except for myself and JM, everyone who was invited currently works for HSLDA.
This was at least the third time I was able to make it. It's a fun, social evening with people I don't normally get to spend much time with.
The Jones' are creative and come up each year with a short trivia-type game that successfully reminds me how LITTLE I know about the Bible. This year's trivia was about women in the Bible, the men that crossed them, and what happened to the men. The one that everyone got: Eve was tempted by the Serpent who was made to crawl on his belly and eat dust.
The party includes something of a pot-luck supper, with everyone bringing a food/dish related in some way to the saint that is assigned to each. JM and I were assigned "Anthony." We found there were two St. Anthony's. We ended up taking Resurrection Rolls. The first St. Anthony, known as St. Anthony the great (or St. Anthony of Egypt), lived part of his life in a tomb and made bread that lasted him for six months at a time. Taking the name of Anthony for the first saint, St. Anthony of Padua is the saint referenced in the ministry of St. Anthony's bread. We also took some lilies, because the blessing of lilies is associated with the feast of St. Anthony of Padua and we thought it would be fun to add some flowers.
I found a recipe for Casserole of St. Anthony (actually associated with a third saint--St. Anthony of Kiev). I contemplated briefly what it would take to make the casserole. But JM's comment that he wouldn't want to eat it definitely ended that idea.
The food everyone else provided was all very good and included Toad in a Hole with applesauce, apples, a rice and meat loaf, rice and curry, turkey and samon wraps, apple crisp, milano cookies, lemon cookies, and other dishes I've forgotten now. People were eating on the food most of the evening and there were still leftovers.
