Wikipedia is free, easy to use, has lots of information, and is based on a fun idea. And though I find myself using it at times, I'm quick to remind students and others that it is not a scholarly resource.
Here are a couple of pieces that address exactly that question.
"Can Wikipedia be Trusted?" (The Guardian. Oct. 24, 2005). Seven experts review and score a Wikipedia article in each of their fields.
"Wikipedia, Open Source, and the Future of the Web." (NPR. Talk of the Nation. Nov. 2, 2005). Haven't yet had a chance to listen to this NPR broadcast, but hopefully I'll get to it.
