Blue Ridge Thunder Cloggers performed at the Loudoun County Fair this evening. There were more than 20 dancers at the performance--more than usual at any particular performance. The interesting thing about the performance was that we were in the show barn. The stage was set up at one end of the show area and the audience was seated on either side of the show area. There was a real sense of something missing when one was looking directly in front, but found no audience. But the audience was very good--enthusiastically cheering and clapping for each dance.
To my knowledge, it was a very good performance for the group. We were on a wooden stage, which really amplifies the sounds of the taps and is easy to dance on. There was only one routine with problems--and it had major problems with no fewer than three independent mistakes that caused the dance to appear much less precise than it should. As the group's "official" photograper said, "We'll burn the tape of that dance."
All of these recent performances, I've been trying to remember when I first performed with the group. I reached the point of being able to perform early in the spring of 2003, but it was at least a few months before I was able to make a performance. Oh well, the point is I'm enjoying it!
