Today was a special service at church to show-case what was learned by the kids in VBS this past week and to share about Urban Impact, which provided the team to run the VBS.
The message theme for the week "God is good" revolved around 5 aspects of God's character, each with its own action to help the kids remember:
- God is almighty. (Arms raised in strongman position.) God can do anything. There is nothing God can't do.
- God is holy. (Arms raised in worship.) God is perfect. There is no one like him.
- God is faithful. (Hands opening as a book.) God always keeps his promises.
- God is all-knowing. (Fingers to temples.) God knows everything. You can't surprise God.
- God loves me. (Arms crossed in self-hug.) He always wants what is best for us.
The Bible story each night and today emphasized one or more of these aspects of God.
- Monday was the story of an angel's fall from heaven for wanting to be God. God is holy and their is no one like him.
- Tuesday was the story of Adam and Eve and their disobedience that brought sin into the world.
- Wednesday was the story of Cain and Abel and the emphasis that we are all sinners, but that God does love us.
- Thursday was the story of Noah and his family--the importance of saying "Yes, Lord" just as Noah did in building the ark, because God knows everything and has a plan, even when we don't understand it.
- Sunday was the story of Joseph going through many hard-times before he was made a ruler, as God promised in his dreams. God is faithful, he kept his promise Joseph.
Everyone had lots of fun!
As a prayer request, David--one of the teens that came with the Urban Impact team--is a high school senior. He is looking to go to college and visited some Christian colleges in the area. However, he currently does not have the finances to attend college.
