Computers Writing

"Computers as Authors? Literary Luddites Unite!" By DANIEL AKST (NYTimes. November 22, 2004)

Computers continue to improve their literary abilities. Of course, someone has to program them and put all the information in the program. So then, when a computer writes something, how much of it is unique? creative? How much can their human developers and initiaters take credit for the work? In most cases of research, the humans are eager to put as much credit as they can to the machine's creative abilities.

Case in point: The Policeman's Beard is Half Constructed credited to computer program RACTER, a program developed by William Chamberlain and Thomas Etter.
